Humming Along Stamp Set & Monochromatic Stamping on DSP
Hi Paper Crafters!! Today we are using monochromatic stamping on DSP to create this pretty birthday card. A monochromatic color scheme is the use of one color and its shades, tones and tints. Since I need to work with the colors Stampin’ Up! gives me, the color palette is technically from the same color family. Using colors from the same color family has “much the same effect in terms of visual harmony and organizing information” as a monochromatic color scheme. We are using the Humming Along stamp set for this card. This was one of the stamp sets I got for free at the Stampin’ Up! convention. There are so many techniques you could use with this stamp set. It would look beautiful colored with our Stampin’ Blends, Aqua Painter & ink, water color pencils or Brusho Crystal Colour.
This blog post shows you how to use our amazing and new alcohol markers called Stampin’ Blends.
Tranquil Textures DSP
My starting point for this card was the DSP (designer series paper). I knew I wanted to stamp my images on DSP, so I looked through my stash and found one that wouldn’t compete with my images. I found this paper in the Tranquil Textures Suite’s DSP in Soft Sea Foam. The texture has a nice organic feel which I felt worked well with my images. To develop my color palette I used colors from the suite; Tranquil Tide, Mint Macaron and Soft Sea Foam, three greens that work well together. I felt like it still needed a little something so I added a few rhinestones (well actually a lot) for some sparkle.
The Color Palette
Recipe: Paper. Images. Embellishments.

The Project:
Step 1:
Cut your pieces.
- Tranquil Tide card stock: Cut in half horizontally (5 ½” x 8 ½”), score at 4 ¼”.
- Tranquil Textures DSP: Cut to 5 ¼” x 4”.
Step 2:
Stamp your images.
- Humming Bird: Use Mint Macaron ink to stamp Hummingbird in upper left corner with the wings extending beyond the paper.
- Hibiscus: Stamp in Mint Macaron ink in the lower right corner with the flower extending beyond the paper.
- Sentiment: Use Tranquil Tide ink to stamp the “Wishing You an Amazing Birthday” in the lower left corner.
Step 3:
Putting it all together.
- Use SNAIL to glue the DSP to the card front.
