What is # simplestamping?

Hello Paper Crafters!! The idea of # simplestamping was introduced to demonstrators at the 30th Anniversary OnStage (our convention) as a way to make card making accessible to everyone. Demonstrators and customers who have been stamping a while (for me it has been almost 20 years), we get a kick out of using our Big Shot for die cutting and embossing, adding embellishments (like rhinestones, pearls, buttons, etc.), using lots of layers, DSP (designer series paper), techniques (like water coloring or using the new Stampin’ Blends) and combining multiple stamp sets. This can be overwhelming for the new stamper. So as a solution to this, Stampin’ Up! has started the # simplestamping movement.

Amazing Life

Amazing Life Stamp Set

I have designed 4 cards for you today. All of them are using the Amazing Life stamp set. This stamp set is available in the 2019 Occasions Catalog on page 28. It is also a part of a bundle. A bundle is a stamp set and either a punch or Framelits/Thinlits. This bundle contains the Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies for $50.25 (a 10% saving vs. purchasing separately). To use the Framelits/Thinlits you need a Big Shot ($110 on pg. 214 in the 2018-19 Annual Catalog). But you don’t need all that to make great cards. I have 4 card designs to show you. Two of the designs are #simplestamping. Then, by using some Dazzling Diamonds Glitter and dimensionals, the third design is stepped up and is ideal for the casual crafter. The last design has lots of elements which is something an avid crafter would love to create.

Keep reading to see how you can make these great cards.

The Project: #3 Happy Birthday (Stepped-up Glitter)

Step 1:

Cut your pieces.

  • Night of Navy card stock: Cut in half horizontally (5 ½” x 8 ½”), score at 4 ¼”.
  • Whisper White CS: Cut 5 ¼” x 4” .
  • Call Me Clover CS: Cut 2 ¼” x 2 ¼”.

Step 2:

Stamp your images.

  • Whisper White CS: This technique is called “Stamping off”. What you do is ink the stamp in Night of Navy and then stamp once (at full strength) then stamp again before re-inking for a lighter version of the ink. Then you repeat the technique with the Call Me Clover.  Tip: I think this technique looks best when you don’t try to line everything up perfectly.
  • Call Me Clover CS: Stamp the cake in Night of Navy randomly.
  • Cake: Stamp in Night of Navy on a scrap of Whisper White CS and fussy cut. Apply a thin layer of Multipurpose Glue to the surface of the cake. Tip: Do this quickly to avoid causing the ink to bleed. Sprinkle with Dazzling Diamonds Glitter and let dry.

Step 3:

Putting it all together.

  • Whisper White CS: Use SNAIL to adhere to the Night of Navy card base.
  • Use dimensionals to adhere the Call Me Clover square to the middle of the card just slightly higher.
  • Cake: Use dimensionals to adhere to the Call Me Clover square.

The Project: #4 Avid Stamper Card

At the November 2018 OnStage, attendees were given the card stock and stamp set to make this card and this is the design I came up with. This project is called a take and make, meaning that we take it home and make it there.

Step 1:

Cut your pieces.

  • Layering Circles Dies: Cut 1 scalloped circle (2 ¼”) from Blackberry Bliss CS.
  • Stitched Shapes Dies: Cut 1 stitched circle (1 7/8”) from Whisper White CS.
  • Baker’s Twine: Cut 8” piece.

Step 2:

Stamp your images.

  • Stamp cake on white circle then use the stamp with 3 dots to randomly stamp around the cake in Daffodil Delight.
  • Envelope: Stamp the envelope flap with the squiggly element in Flirty Flamingo.
  • Stamparatus: Arrange the stamps (Happy Birthday, dotted line and swirly line) on the Stamparatus plate. Ink with Flirty Flamingo and stamp on card front. Use hinge stamping to repeat the pattern down the card.

Step 3:

Color images.

  • Use the Blackberry Bliss Stampin’ Blends to color the cake.
  • Color the candle and flame with Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends.

Step 4:

Putting it all together.

  • Glue the Whisper White circle to the Blackberry Bliss circle.
  • Tie the Baker’s Twine around the matted cake piece, then use dimensionals to adhere to the front of the card.
  • Apply 3 pearls (So Saffron) around the cake image.
